21-year-old amateur secures LET title with dominant six-shot lead at Carton House
England’s Lottie Woad delivered a poised and powerful performance to win the 2025 KPMG Women’s Irish Open by six strokes, becoming the first amateur to claim victory at the event since its return to the Ladies European Tour schedule.
Competing at Carton House, A Fairmont Hotel, Woad closed with a final-round 69 to finish 21-under-par, comfortably ahead of a strong field. The win comes on the heels of her triumph at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in 2024, further solidifying her reputation as one of the brightest young talents in women’s golf.
Calm Under Pressure
Starting the final round with a seven-shot lead thanks to opening rounds of 68, 67, and 67, Woad remained steady throughout Sunday’s play. Birdies on the second and fourth holes gave her early momentum, and although she carded bogeys on the fifth and 15th, birdies on the eighth, 13th, 16th, and 17th ensured she stayed well ahead of the chasing pack.
“It means a lot to get the win,” said Woad. “I still had to really focus as I was being chased by some really good players. It’s perfect. I feel like I’m playing well, and I hope to continue that into Evian next week.”
Woad credited a 12-foot birdie on the second hole for helping settle early nerves. “It felt pretty comfortable overall,” she added. “There were a few moments at the start of the back nine that could have gone wrong, but I managed to hang in there.”
Despite the win, Woad has no immediate plans to turn professional. She’s just two points shy of the 20 required to secure LPGA Tour membership via the Elite Amateur Pathway and intends to stay amateur until reaching that mark.
Sagström and Garvey Round Out the Podium
Sweden’s Madelene Sagström finished second at 15-under-par after a final-round 68. While she couldn’t catch Woad, the Solheim Cup player was pleased with her own performance, particularly a five-birdie stretch over the back nine.
“You can’t control what anyone else does. It was Lottie’s week,” Sagström said. “It was wonderful to watch her play… she’s going to take European and American golf by storm very soon.”
New Zealand’s Amelia Garvey took solo third at 14-under with a final-round 67. The LET rookie’s bogey-free back nine helped her secure spots in both the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open and her first AIG Women’s Open.
“It’s unreal,” Garvey said. “To have another good week after five in a row, and finish like that—it’s just awesome. I’m excited to keep it going.”
