Networking community wins ‘Best Initiative’ at 2025 Women in Golf Awards
The Women in Golf Society (WIGS) has been named the winner of the “Best Initiative” award at this year’s Women in Golf Awards, held at Foxhills Golf Club. Founded by Ali McGuirk (left in photo) of Prince’s Golf Club and Dolores Brown of Golf Breaks, the Society was recognised for its growing role in uniting women across the golf industry, offering support, connection, and a route into the game.
Building Connections Through the Game
WIGS was created to serve women working in golf—or those aspiring to join the industry—by using golf as a platform for connection and career development. From helping women start or return to the game to building confidence in professional spaces, the Society has become a hub for community and growth.
Through casual meetups, networking events, and digital engagement, WIGS offers members a chance to share experiences and create lasting connections. The Society has held events at venues including Prince’s Golf Club, The Grove, and Frilford Heath, as well as at major tournaments like the AIG Women’s Open. These events regularly attract women from across the industry and at all stages of their careers.
From First Swings to Career Moves
Beyond social gatherings, WIGS has proven to be a launchpad for new opportunities. Some women have picked up golf for the first time through the Society, while others have used the network to explore new roles within the industry. One recent highlight includes a placement at a prestigious London golf club, directly linked to Society connections.
The Society is also expanding its influence off the course. Through university talks, podcasts, and online outreach, WIGS is introducing more women to the professional side of golf and supporting those entering the sector.
Reaching Beyond the UK
WIGS’ reach now extends internationally, with collaborations such as a joint effort with LINKS Scotland and representation at the PGA Show in the U.S. The Society plans to return to the PGA Show in January 2026 as part of its ongoing commitment to global inclusion in golf.
“This award is a proud and meaningful milestone for everyone involved,” said founder Ali McGuirk. “We started the Society to create a space where women in the industry – and those looking to join it – could connect through golf, feel supported, and grow in confidence.”
Looking Ahead to 2026
WIGS is set to expand its calendar of events in 2026, with plans to increase its presence across the UK, especially in northern regions. The goal is to make the Society even more accessible to women across the country.
