Club Maia, co-founded by former England footballer Carly Telford and DJ Lucy Monkman, has partnered with indoor golf venue Pitch for a series of London events aimed at bringing more women into the game.
Club Maia was set up to combine golf with music, fashion and social events, with the aim of making the sport feel more accessible to women who haven’t played before as well as those already in the game. Telford is Chelsea FC Women’s commercial manager; Monkman, known as DJ Monki, plays football for Dulwich Hamlet FC and runs the women’s sport agency INMOTION.
First event at Pitch Soho
Pitch will host the collective’s events across its London venues as official events partner. The first, Match Play, takes place at Pitch Soho this month. Newcomers get coaching and interactive sessions, while more experienced players take part in social rounds, with the evening ending in a watch party for some of the summer’s major sporting events.
The partnership will also support Club Maia’s wider events programme, including Clubhouse Confidential, a supper club and speaker series on women in business and culture.
A space that doesn’t currently exist
“I wanted to create a space that doesn’t currently exist – a space I would have looked for when I first picked up a club,” said Monkman. “Golf has given me friendships, confidence and opportunities, but getting started can feel intimidating.”
Club Maia is aimed primarily at women aged 18 to 40. The Match Play events at Pitch Soho begin this month.
