Longtime resort leader takes the helm at luxury Hertfordshire destination
The Grove, the luxury countryside resort in Hertfordshire, has announced the promotion of Anna Darnell to General Manager. Darnell, who has been part of the property’s team for more than two decades, will now oversee the overall business strategy, daily operations, and revenue management for the 300-acre estate.
In her expanded role, Darnell will lead all guest-facing departments, including Housekeeping, Golf, Spa, Leisure, Revenue, Front of House, Security, and Maintenance.
Her journey with The Grove began over 20 years ago when she joined as a corporate golf coordinator. Since then, she’s taken on a range of leadership roles, including Director of Golf and Resort Leisure Director, where she was responsible for spa and leisure services.
The Grove’s leadership restructure comes under the direction of Bernard Murphy, Group Managing Director for Ralph Trustees. Alongside Darnell, the new Senior Leadership Team includes HR Director Danielle Michaels and Financial Controller Andy Watson. Two additional team members have also been promoted: Maarten Geschwindt to Culinary Director and Lucy Chase-Gardener to Marketing Director.
Set against a backdrop of historic Hertfordshire countryside, The Grove features 214 guest rooms, a championship golf course, Sequoia Spa, several restaurants, and a restored Walled Garden with a kitchen garden and outdoor pool area. Originally the home of the Earls of Clarendon, the estate dates back to the 1500s and now serves as a modern retreat for leisure and business guests alike.
