Local favourite claims emotional victory on home turf; Henry Styles takes men’s crown
Lucy Jamieson of Heswall delivered a memorable victory at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, winning the 2025 English Women’s Amateur Championship with a 3&1 win over Grace Bowen. Her triumph, coming just miles from her home club, capped a dramatic week on the Wirral coast that celebrated a century of the English Amateur.
Jamieson, a former caddie at Royal Liverpool, enjoyed strong support from the Cheshire golfing community throughout the championship. After qualifying fifth in stroke play, she battled through four rounds of match play before reaching the 36-hole final.
The final match saw plenty of momentum shifts. Jamieson held a narrow lead at the halfway point, but Bowen, from Droitwich, came out strong in the afternoon, winning the first three holes to flip the advantage. Undeterred, Jamieson responded with a decisive stretch of play, winning five of the next seven holes to go 3-up.
Though Bowen fought back, cutting the deficit to one, Jamieson pulled away once more with a birdie on the 16th and sealed victory on the 17th in front of a large and vocal home crowd.
“It means the world, and it’s even more special that it’s here,” said the 24-year-old. “Royal Liverpool is a little bit of a second home, so I’m happy. All the support this week was brilliant—Cheshire has been a massive part of my golf since I was young.”
Jamieson will soon begin a new chapter in her golfing journey, starting a job in St Andrews, Scotland, next week.
Men’s Championship: Styles Powers to Victory
In the men’s final, 19-year-old Henry Styles (Romford) staged a remarkable run to claim the title with a 5&4 victory over top seed Max Hopkins. After barely making the match play cut in 61st place, Styles surged through the draw and produced a clinical performance in the final, including six birdies across the last 14 holes.
Styles, a student-athlete at the University of San Francisco, said winning at Royal Liverpool—where he once watched his heroes compete—was “something special.”
