Your feet are the foundation of your golf swing. And distributing your weight correctly in your feet is crucial to staying balanced and maintaining good posture throughout your swing.
It’s why you see even the best pros in the world shuffling their feet around before they hit the ball.
So, if you’re not striking the ball properly, the first thing to check is your set up, and, specifically, how you’re distributing your weight.
Weight distribution in your golf swing
It might sound very technical but don’t overthink this.
When you set up to the ball, all you need to think about is feeling really balanced; your weight shouldn’t favour any side – left, right, front or back.
That’s the crucial bit.
Try to share your weight evenly on your left and right leg, and between your heels and the balls of your feet.
Lean forward onto your toes and you’re likely to catch the ground before the ball. This is known as hitting it “fat”. Lean too far back in your heels and you’ll probably find that you hit it “thin” – you’ll hit the ball using the bottom part of the clubface and it will stay low to the ground.
Having that solid foundation at set up will give you the best chance of hitting the ball well.
Give it a go and let me know how you get on!
