What swing width actually means
Width is the distance maintained between your hands and your body as you swing back — the key is rotating your upper body while keeping your lead arm straight, rather than pulling the club inward with your arms.
Why losing width causes problems
When your arms collapse and your hands come too close to your body, the club gets steep on the downswing, leading to topped shots, pulls to the left, or a slice across the back of the ball.
How the resistance band drill works
Loop a resistance band around your back and hook it round your thumbs — as you swing, the band encourages you to maintain that outward stretch, keeping your arms extended and your body and arms working together through impact.
