Celebrated golf architect Harry Colt created this delightful course at Tandridge in 1924. There are spectacular views of the Surrey North Downs and the High Weald, with the front nine running along relatively gentle land and the back nine sited in more rolling and dramatic terrain. Strategically placed bunkers call for accuracy from the tee, plateau greens make for demanding approach shots and subtle borrows on the renowned surfaces test your putting.
In recent years members and visitors to Tandridge have been privileged to witness a transformation in the course. With their eye for detail and relentless pursuit of excellence, the Course Manager and his team have consistently upgraded the presentation and playability of this fine Harry Colt course. As a result, the course has moved rapidly up the influential Top 100 lists in GB and Ireland. Every press review reflects the increasing quality. Tandridge has moved into a different league.
I played this course twice this year in our Lady Captain's course swap, and with friends who won a voucher. It is a beautiful course that is very enjoyable to play. Lots of changes of elevation, many strategically-placed bunkers, some water, some heather and a few holes that are simply stunning. It is possible to score well here, but there is lots to catch you out. If you play it in a match, make sure you finish before the 18th which is virtually unplayable for medium to short hitters. But apart from that enjoy yourself! I wouldn't want to play my medals here every month, but it's great for an awayday. And you can't write about Tandridge without mentioning the amazing food. If you manage to play there on a society day you get a dessert buffet which I am still dreaming about! And special mention for the best decaff coffee offering of any golf club I have been to.
