Set in the grounds of the original Little Aston Hall, Little Aston Golf Club came into being in 1908 when 141 acres of land was leased from Mr AW Greatrex and was then finally purchased in 1925. A further 12 acres and 18 acres were purchased in 1928 and 1964 respectively to give the landscape and facility that you see today.
In July 1908 Harry Vardon was commissioned to convert the land into a golf course and shortly afterwards Harry Colt was brought in by the membership to make several improvements and transform Little Aston’s bunkering.
Providence was generous in the provision of the raw material for a course because of the subsoil of sand and gravel, and a beautiful woodland setting in the original Little Aston Park. Over the years the old grass park has been converted into what is unquestionably one of the finest inland courses in the country.
This pretty parkland course offers some big pluses and a few minuses for women. On the plus side the placing of the forward tees is great, there are few punishing carries off the tee and the par 3s are sensible length and brilliant. On the minus side the dominant design on this course is for giant bunkers everywhere and frequently right across the fairway or front of the green, sometimes with no accessible route. You will frequently need to lay up. The greens are great, there is a mix of uphill and downhill holes and the landscape is very pretty. All in all, recommended for a pleasant day out.
