Carne Golf Links lies on the remote and rugged Mullet peninsula, along the Wild Atlantic Way, in the North West region of County Mayo in the West of Ireland. An area renowned for its wild and ancient landscape.
Set in magnificent, unspoiled sand dunes stretching 150 metres above sea level, with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean across Blacksod Bay and the legendary islands of Inis Gloire and Inis Geidhe.
The course features 18 amazing holes designed by the late Eddie Hackett and true to his philosophy for respecting natural landscapes, the tees and greens occurred naturally and very little earth moving was involved in the course construction.
This course is a real treat. Hole after hole hidden in the dunes. Blind holes, bending fairways, tricky greens, and deep (!) bunkers. Every hole serves up something a little bit different.
Favourite hole? Number 8. A drive into the unknown. A fairway wood down the valley of dunes. A pitch over the dunes and eventually the green.
I gave this course a five star rating because I loved the course BUT a couple of things - the ladies changing rooms have been recently refurbished to a very high standard but they are small and slightly lacking lockers. The red tees are just over 5,000 yards which is fine if you are not a big hitter but I would recommend any ladies who can hit a good drive to consider the yellows. The yellow and white tees have a much better vista of the course too.
