Welcome to the beta version of the new Women & Golf website. Our web monkeys are still hard at work and welcome your feedback.
Designed in 1926 by J F Abercromby, one of the finest British golf course designers of the last century, the 18 hole championship Bovey Castle golf course is both challenging and beautiful.
Opened in 1930, the course quickly gained national acclaim for its reputation as one of the most enjoyable places to play golf and nearly 90 years later, guests still love to play golf at Bovey. Designed to rival its sister courses at Gleneagles and Turnberry, the course has been described as an experience of golf never to be forgotten.
This is a course that is about accuracy and not length. With water, lovely trees and views of the manor house, it looks so pretty, but packs such a punch. A bubbling river runs through the first part of the course, and creates the drama on those holes. Drives need to be straight, approach shots need to be judged perfectly. The back 9 is more open, and sadly marred by some holes that are just too close to each other and to the road. But don’t let that put you off, the forward tees are very well placed, the surroundings are lovely and, if you can hit a straight ball, you will enjoy yourself.
