Blackmoor is sandwiched between the North and South Downs at the western end of the glorious sand belt, which cuts swathe through Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire.
I played this course in their mixed open a few times. With its heather and pines it is a beautiful course, a feast for the eyes! It's enjoyable to play, the hazards are placed fairly - there is nearly always access to the green for a good shot even if you can't hit the ball super high. The fairways are generous. There were par 3s where I could use an iron (always a treat!) And there were two par 3s where I couldn't get there with driver (less of a treat.) If there is a downside it's that so many tees are placed near greens. It tests the etiquette and slows the game - and there is plenty of space so if I had the chance to chat to Harry Colt I would ask why he designed it like that! The shop has a good selection of women's clothes, the ninth comes back to the clubhouse and there is a halfway hut. And there is an oncourse toilet on the 10th. We were given a really warm welcome and enjoyed our day greatly. A course worth making the trip to enjoy.
