Actress to tee it up alongside husband Michael Douglas for the first time
Catherine Zeta-Jones will be back at St Andrews this week, taking part in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The Academy Award-winning actress will play in the tournament alongside her husband, Michael Douglas — marking the first time the couple has competed in the event together.
Both have played the prestigious pro-am before, but never at the same time.
A Friendly Family Rivalry
“I’m delighted to be playing again, and it will be even more enjoyable with Michael alongside me,” Zeta-Jones said. “No doubt there will be a touch of friendly competition between us in the Team Championship.
“When I partnered with Victor Perez, the 2019 champion, I loved the experience. The atmosphere was incredible, and the galleries gave us such great support. We didn’t make the cut—which I know is every amateur’s goal—so that will be one of my targets this time. I’m already excited to see which professional I’ll be paired with.”
From Hollywood to the Home of Golf
Born in Wales, Zeta-Jones first found fame on stage in London before starring in the TV series The Darling Buds of May. Her international breakthrough came with roles in The Mask of Zorro and Entrapment. She went on to win an Oscar, BAFTA, SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award for her role in Chicago, and a Tony Award for A Little Night Music.
Most recently, she appeared as Morticia Addams in Netflix’s hit series Wednesday. Her upcoming projects include Amazon’s Kill Jackie and the independent film The Gallerist, alongside Natalie Portman, Jenna Ortega, and Sterling K. Brown.
In 2010, she was awarded a CBE in the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday Honours List for her contributions to film and charity.
A Championship Steeped in Tradition
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is one of golf’s most celebrated tournaments, pairing professional golfers with celebrity amateurs. The event is played across three legendary Scottish links courses — St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns — from October 2 to 5, with the final round returning to the Old Course.
Spectators can enjoy the first three days free of charge, while tickets are required only for the final day on Sunday, October 5, at St Andrews.
