“I Want to Show Him You Can Still Chase Your Dreams” — Georgia Hall on Motherhood and Her Return to Royal Lytham

Eight years after winning her major at Royal Lytham & St Annes, Georgia Hall returns to the same course this week as a new mother — and reflects on pregnancy, birth, and the road back to competitive fitness.

Georgia Hall was 22 when she won the Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2018, a victory she says she’s only fully come to appreciate with time. “I just couldn’t believe that I’d achieved my dream so quickly. I wasn’t really expecting to win it at 22,” she says. “Looking back now, it makes me appreciate it more than I think I did at the time.”

This week she returns to the same course for the AIG Women’s Open — but as a mother. Hall played on through the early months of pregnancy last year, including a top-10 finish at the AIG Women’s Open while three months along, before stepping away following the birth of her son, Connor, in February.

The comeback hasn’t been straightforward. “The first time I picked up a club again, I could just feel that my rotation was horrendous,” she says. “I thought a month after, you’d get your body back — but that definitely wasn’t the case.”

Working with a multi-disciplinary team through the Ladies European Tour, Hall has rebuilt her fitness in phases, much like an athlete returning from injury. Recent testing shows real progress: a 22% improvement in force output and a 14% increase in takeoff impulse, a key driver of clubhead speed.

Beyond the numbers, Hall says the return carries a wider message. “It’s very important for me to show other women that your life doesn’t have to stop just because you’ve had children, and that you can still have a career.”

With Connor set to be pitch-side at Royal Lytham this week, Hall says the return means more than most. “There are just so many great memories for me at that course… I really wanted to make the most of it.”
