New “Hero Messages” campaign brings personal fan support directly to players at Royal Porthcawl
The R&A has launched a new initiative designed to bring fans closer to the action at the 2025 AIG Women’s Open, set to take place from 30 July to 3 August at Royal Porthcawl in Wales. Dubbed “Hero Messages,” the fan-focused campaign will allow supporters around the world to send personal video or photo messages to their favorite golfers.
These messages—submitted through a dedicated portal at AIGWomensOpen.com—will be displayed throughout the championship grounds on large screens, shared via the tournament’s website, and delivered directly to players throughout the week.
A Personal Touch at the Heart of a Major Championship
With Royal Porthcawl set to host the largest women’s sporting event ever held in Wales, the Hero Messages campaign aims to create a more intimate connection between the world’s top players and their global fan base. After stepping off the course, competitors will be greeted by video messages from supporters, including friends, family, and surprise celebrity well-wishers.
Lydia Ko, the reigning AIG Women’s Open Champion, said the initiative highlights the importance of support beyond the ropes:
“I think sometimes we don’t realise just how many people are out there supporting us—especially from afar. Hero Messages are such a cool way to bring that to life. To walk off the course and see a message from someone who’s been cheering you on… it’s going to mean a lot.”
Georgia Hall, who claimed the title in 2018, echoed the sentiment:
“The fans mean a lot to us, and sometimes we don’t get to hear from them directly. Hero Messages are a really lovely idea—it gives us that chance to feel the support in a really personal way.”
Strengthening Fan Connections
According to The R&A, the initiative is part of a broader effort to deepen fan engagement and enhance the overall experience for players and spectators alike.
“We’re passionate about delivering unforgettable experiences for both fans and players,” said Zoe Ridgway, Championship Director for the AIG Women’s Open. “By surprising players with heartfelt messages from those who support and are inspired by them, we’ll be able to showcase the emotional depth of the sport and bring fans right into the moment.”
Fans are encouraged to visit AIGWomensOpen.com to upload their messages ahead of the championship.
