Have you ever visited somewhere and wondered why you’ve not been there before? Well, Trevose Golf & Country Club is one of those places. Located 10 mins from the pretty town of Padstow on Cornwall’s north coast, and within a few minutes’ walk of the beach, this is a bucket list venue for all golfers.
I’m not aware of any other course in the world that is able to offer a glimpse of every one of the eighteen holes you’re about to play when standing on the first tee. With views of Constantine and Booby’s Bays in the background, the vista is simply stunning.
As well as the Championship Course, renowned as one of the best links courses in the UK, there’s the Headland Course - a full-length 9-hole course, perfect if you’ve got limited time - and the 9-hole par-3 short course - great for newbies to the game, so there’s something for everyone. The weather, particularly the wind, does play its part in how well you play and score, but providing you’re able to take that into account and avoid the strategically placed bunkers on many holes, you’re guaranteed to enjoy a fabulous round of golf.
For multisport enthusiasts, you can play tennis on one of the three on-site courts which are open all year round, or stretch out those muscles in the outdoor swimming pool open from May-September (weather permitting). It wouldn’t be Cornwall if there wasn’t a surf school close by, so whether you’re a first-timer or have some experience and would like to ride the Cornish waves, residents can book lessons at a special discounted rate with a qualified instructor at the local Harlyn Surf School.
If you’re more in need of a pamper, then contact Gabby in the resort’s beauty salon where she will ensure that you can relax and unwind with one of the various treatments on offer.
Whatever group size, there’s a variety of comfortable and well-equipped on-site accommodation. In particular, the five-star rated Fairway Lodges, each with their own balcony or terrace/sun deck, tucked away below the 18th green and located a short walk from the clubhouse, are fabulous. Each can sleep up to six people with three twin/double en-suite bedrooms, large open plan dining/living area, fully equipped kitchen and a laundry room – a godsend if the weather has not been on its best behaviour!
If, like me, you enjoy being waited on when you’re away, the bright and relaxing Constantine Restaurant, with its fantastic views overlooking the course and Atlantic, offers a quality menu throughout the day, but be sure to book if you want to ensure a table for dinner. If time permits, the area also features some wonderful local pubs and restaurants, including the renowned Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in Padstow.
With a number of domestic airlines flying from many major UK airports into and out of Newquay Airport, only 25 minutes’ drive away, the resort is accessible to everyone.
So, if you want to play a great golf course, enjoy good food, experience friendly and efficient service and have some fun, then we highly recommend Trevose Golf & Country Club. We bet you won’t be disappointed!
