Barnham Broom offers everything that should be on the checklist for a girlie golf break! A four-star hotel, two 18-hole golf courses, a fitness centre, indoor swimming pool and a fabulous spa.

There’s not too much going on in Barnham Broom, it’s a typical peaceful Norfolk village with a Post Office and a pub, just 10 miles from the heart of Norwich.

However, a mile down the road is Barnham Broom Hotel, Golf & Spa that opened in 1977, so even if you haven’t paid a visit yet, in golfing circles this established East Anglian venue is likely to ring a few bells.

Hotel

The four-star hotel and two 18-hole golf courses are located within 250 acres of beautiful countryside. There are also tennis courts, squash courts, a fitness centre, indoor swimming pool and a fabulous spa – all the facilities that should be on a checklist for a girlie golfing break.

Following a recent refurbishment there’s a relaxed and modern feel about the place from the lounge and bar areas through to the 42 spacious bedrooms that are well equipped with comfy beds, and let’s not forget the Molten Brown toiletries!

Within the hotel there are different areas in which you can chill out both inside and out, including upstairs and downstairs terraces, plus a pretty courtyard. This is a great option to have especially if you are in the company of a large group of women and you want to escape the cackle for a while!

Golf

With two golf courses, the Valley and the Hill, the beauty of this venue is that it has the capacity to cater for groups, even at the weekend, and visitors are made to feel most welcome.

The Valley course is a stern test of golf, largely due to the abundance of water features and the extremely sloping greens. There’s certainly plenty of elevation from tee to green and a great variety of holes. The hike to the par-3 7th tee is one you won’t forget, but even if you become breathless, it’s a lovely hole to play once you get there.

For a bunch of ladies with a mix of handicaps, the Hill course is friendlier. The first few holes are a little tricky and require strategic play to avoid hazards, but the rest are fairly kind with wide fairways. Apart from the par-5 5th hole at 500 yards, there’s an opportunity to score well on the remaining par-5s as they are relatively short. The course doesn’t live up to its name, as it’s not particularly hilly, so it’s easy to walk while appreciating the views over the surrounding countryside.

Food and Drink

There are two dining options, either the Sports Bar, that’s perfectly adequate for an informal bite to eat or a post-round drink and snack, or the more formal award-winning Brasserie. Alternatively, a larger group is best suited to private dining, where you can enjoy a first-class menu and make as much noise as you like!

If you are one of those golfers that have heard of Barnham Broom but are yet to visit, don’t miss out, as it’s a thoroughly enjoyable venue for a short break.
