The 18-hole par 72 championship golf course is part of the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort & Spa - a luxury beach-side resort nestled within its own 64 acre nature reserve. The launch of this new golf product follows the news that Dalit Bay has this month been recognised as one of the top golf courses in South East Asia by international magazine, Destinations of the World News.
The eco golf course was designed by renowned golfing architect Ted Parslow of E&G Parslow and was sympathetically developed to highlight Sabah’s natural beauty. Nature has been skilfully incorporated into the design of the course, traversing between the Tambalang and Mengkabong rivers and set amidst the tropical jungle and wetlands. The course has been designed to follow the existing contours of the natural landscape and protect the natural habitat. Protection of the indigenous wildlife is key. Existing swamp areas have been maintained and mangrove trees and shrubs have been planted along the river areas. Freshwater ponds and natural wetlands around the course are home to otters and lizards and the course encourages the migration of many species of birds. The golf course has sustainability at its core, with eco-features such as a fully automated water irrigation system to control water usage and the use of control release fertilizer for the greens.
Beautifully manicured Tifway grass fairways and Tifdwarf greens glide through this natural landscape. Guests can learn how to play golf or brush up on their techniques with the assistance of
the resident instructor PGA golf professional. After the game, players can relax on the open-air golfer’s terrace and enjoy food and drinks including local Malay dishes and local beers. Or even enjoy a special ‘Golfers’ Reviver Treatment’ at the onsite spa.
