With the Claret Jug having been presented to Henrik Stenson after the nail-biting finale of The Open 2016 at Troon, the 24-month countdown is now underway in Carnoustie Country, the next top Scottish golfing destination to welcome The Open.

Carnoustie Championship, Carnoustie Country’s jewel in the crown, is to host The Open 2018. From July 19-22, 2018, the world’s top golfers and thousands of spectators will flock to the renowned course, accompanied by the spotlight provided by the world’s sporting media.

This will be the eighth time Carnoustie Championship has hosted The Open and enquiries and bookings are already being made by golfing fans keen to watch their heroes on the links course which has been the scene of so many legendary golfing moments. This is the course where Paul Lawrie became the first Scotsman to win The Open after Jean Van de Velde’s disastrous final hole. This is the course where a wonder shot on the par 5 14th enabled Gary Player to win the 1968 title. This is the course where Ben Hogan won the only Open he ever played in. Who knows what will happen next on Carnoustie Championship, renowned as one of the most challenging links courses in the world?

As well as spectating, visitors to The Open 2018 will be able to experience golf at its very best on Carnoustie Country’s other 33 courses, which are in and around the county of Angus. From traditional links courses stretching along the Angus coastline to James Braid designed inland courses with hundreds of years of golfing history to spectacular courses nestling in the foothills of the Cairngorms Mountains, there’s no end of choice for golfers of all skill and ability levels.

During The Open 2018, several accommodation providers are offering stay and play packages in Carnoustie Country, which are ideal for hospitality trips or short golfing breaks. There is also an excellent choice of hotels in Carnoustie Country, including Carnoustie Golf Hotel, located on the edge of Carnoustie Championship, Drumoig Hotel & Golf Course, which is half way between Carnoustie and St Andrews, and the Woodlands Hotel, which is only a short train ride from Carnoustie.

Alternatively, there are several exclusive-use properties, including the stunning House of Turin, while luxury self-catering lodges (and a 9-hole golf course) can be found at Forbes of Kingennie.

As well as playing and watching golf, there are many other visitor attractions, outdoor activities and places to go in Carnoustie Country. Whether you want to dine out in style, have a pie and a pint, watch a film, enjoy a trip to the theatre, go mountain biking or simply walk along a deserted golden beach at sunset, Carnoustie Country is ideal. And with the lively, cosmopolitan city of Dundee, soon to be home of the only V&A outside London, on our doorstep and St Andrews, the home of golf, only half an hour away, there’s never a shortage of things to do when you play or watch golf in Carnoustie Country.
