Families eager to avoid piling on the pounds and looking to keep active over the busy Christmas period can head to the five-star La Manga Club and indulge in a feast of sporting action at Spain’s flagship resort – with a seven-night stay for a family of four available from €911 (approx £670).

Special golf teaching packages for children start from €99 (£72 approx) for a four-hour under-nine academy, with further six-hour teaching options for youngsters in the under-15 and under-17 age groups.

2013 Wimbledon winner Andy Murray is among the stars to have used La Manga Club’s five-star tennis facilities while the venue is the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association, and players can work on all aspects of their technique under sunny skies at the resort’s academy.

Adults and juniors can choose from a range of teaching options for people of all standards over Christmas including its popular 10-hour adult academies – bookable for €225 (approx £161) per person – and two-hour junior daily coaching sessions from Monday to Friday for children aged from nine to 19 available from €200 (approx £147) per person.

In addition, youngsters aged five to 12 can enjoy free access to the resort’s Junior Club and its special Christmas programme from Monday to Friday, with activities including crazy golf, table tennis, Nintendo Wii and air hockey competitions.

Fun for all the family is on offer on Christmas Day with a festive buffet lunch at the resort’s Amapola restaurant featuring children’s entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus. Tickets cost €90 for adults and €45 for youngsters aged 12 and under including select wines and soft drinks.

And families of four seeking a touch of luxury for their stays can book a seven-night bed-and-breakfast stay in La Manga Club’s five-star Hotel Principe Felipe for €1,588 (approx £1,167). All prices include complimentary use of Spa La Manga Club’s fitness centre, indoor pool, saunas and steam rooms, with free meals for kids under five for guests staying in the hotel.
