Golfers fed up at the prospect of another long winter ahead are being invited to pack their clubs and head to Spain’s La Manga Club to compete in the resort’s popular end-of-season La Manga Club Open at the start of December.

Taking place for a 16th successive year from December 5-10, the 54-hole event is set to feature men and women from all over Europe competing on the resort’s famous North and South courses for an array of top prizes.

Tournament packages feature four or five nights’ accommodation in the five-star Hotel Principe Felipe or four-star Las Lomas Village, with breaks including breakfast and a welcome pack; a cocktail reception; a gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony. Prices include tournament entry for golfers, practice balls and on-course refreshments during the event (a practice round is also included for golfers staying five nights).

In addition, event guests will also enjoy discounts of 15 per cent when eating at any of the resort’s Amapola, Asia, Luigi’s and La Bodega restaurants and Deli-Café, and complimentary access to the five-star Spa La Manga Club’s fitness centre, indoor pool, saunas and steam rooms.

Set in an area three times the size of Monaco, La Manga Club’s extensive golf facilities include three 18-hole courses, a nine-hole academy course and a recently-opened Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only one in mainland Spain.

A five-time host of the Spanish Open, its name is synonymous with golf resorts across the world, with golf legends including Gary Player, Arnold Palmer and the late Severiano Ballesteros all featuring prominently in its history.

In addition to golf, the resort – the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association – also boasts a 28-court tennis academy, a new High Performance Sports Centre and 2,000m² spa and fitness complex. It offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, and more than 20 bars and restaurants.

n A choice of four and five-night packages are available for the 16th La Manga Club Golf Open. All breaks include breakfast and a welcome pack; tournament entry, a cocktail reception; a gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony, and are available from €510 (£425 approx) per person in the resort’s Hotel Principe Felipe, or €425 (approx £355) per person in the four-star Las Lomas Village apartments.
