With more than 300 days of sun per year and in excess of 40 golf courses, it’s easy to see why the Algarve is such a popular destination.

Since the original design was laid out at Penina just over a half a century ago, the Algarve has become Europe’s premier golf destination.

The Portuguese region, which has long been considered a favourite among tour professionals, who descend on the popular harbour resort of Vilamoura each year for the Portuguese Masters, now boasts 43 courses, including some of the finest layouts in Europe, and has become the most iconic of European sunshine golf destinations.

Spectacular sandy beaches, whitewash hilltop villages, and a feast of championship courses await the golfer in the perpetually booming region, where a warm welcome and beautiful sunshine is guaranteed.

Since Sir Henry Cotton’s inaugural layout sowed the seeds for the sport in the region, a huge selection of golf courses and resorts have emerged, with many of them now among the most highly regarded courses in the country.

The Algarve offers something to suit everyone, whether it’s the buzzing nightlife in the centre of the region, the luxury resorts to the east, or the unbridled natural beauty in the west, but whichever way you decide to travel, the quality and variety of the golf courses on offer is unlikely to disappoint.

Off the golf course, designer shops, dolphin watching, boat trips, a visit to Zoomarine or a water park, and dramatic clifftop walks, are just a few of the activities that can be enjoyed, while the region also boasts some of Portugal’s most delicious seafood restaurants

With regular direct flights to Faro available from across the UK, teeing it up on the region’s selection of spectacular courses has never been easier, with a record number of golf visitors utilising the easy and affordable transports links to make the most of the year-round sunshine in 2016, with a staggering 1.3m rounds played over the course of last year.

What makes the region such an attractive proposition, beyond the standard of the golf courses and spectacular scenery, is its exceptional value for money, with a recent Post Office Holiday Money Report crowning the Algarve the best value holiday destination in the world for 2017.

With so much to offer the only problem may be deciding which golf courses to play, and with so many courses from which to choose, even regular visitors will find that a new golfing adventure awaits on every visit.

To give you a helping hand, we take a journey through the region to showcase the best courses and destinations.
