Ernie Els’ masterpiece golf course creation, The Els Club Teluk Datai, has added yet another industry accolade to its enviable collection, after being named the ‘Best International Golf Course’ at the International Property Awards in Dubai.
The Malaysian layout, which opened on the stunning island of Langkawi in October, has already received worldwide critical acclaim, claiming titles such as ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ and ‘Best New Golf Course in Asia’ at last month’s prestigious World Golf Awards, before taking home its latest piece of silverware.
Voted for by a panel of industry experts, comprised of architects, hospitality professionals, Golf journalists and Resort Developers, an International Property Award is a world-renowned mark of excellence. With the elite of residential, commercial and leisure property companies included, The Els Club Teluk Datai fought off stiff competition to take home the ‘Best International Golf Course’ award.
Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin, Managing Director of DRH, expressed his joy at the new award: “Earlier this year we were thrilled to receive the award for the Best Golf Course in Malaysia and the Best Golf Course in Asia Pacific at the Asia Pacific Property Awards. It is an incredible honour to now receive the award for the Best International Golf Course at the International Property Awards.”
“Langkawi is arguably one of the true Asian treasure troves of island destinations, and to now boast a golf course that is receiving as much critical acclaim as our award-winning hotel, The Datai Langkawi, makes us all very proud, he added.”
Els Club Malaysia Senior Vice President, David Townend, said: “To receive this accolade, having only had our grand opening recently, is incredible recognition of the hard work that has gone into the design and construction of this course."
The Els Club Teluk Datai plays a key role in growing golf tourism in the region, sitting alongside The Datai Langkawi, a world-class hotel owned and operated by Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH).
The Els Club Teluk Datai is managed and operated by Troon Golf, which oversees operations at some of world's pre-eminent golf resorts, and owned by Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH), an investment arm of the Malaysian Government.
