The England Golf Trust’s annual fundraising Stableford competition for women golfers is now open for entries.

Now in its 15th year, the event sees women golfers competing to help raise vital funds for the England Golf Trust which supports young players of all ages, genders and abilities to enjoy the game and reach their full potential.

“It will be fantastic if as many women as possible enter this competition through their golf club sections, all monies collected and contributed to the Trust really can help make a difference,” said England Golf CEO Jeremy Tomlinson.

Promising young golfer Holly Murphy is one of the youngsters the charity has helped. She was awarded an England Golf Trust grant of £400 when she was 16.

“I’ve lost 7.1 shots off my handicap which is now 9.2. This has given me more confidence going into competitions,” said Holly. “Without the grant from the Trust, I just don’t think I would have been able to progress quite as fast and as far as I have.”

Charles Rowbotham, aged 10, has severe allergies and learning difficulties, and, through the support of funds from the England Golf Trust, was awarded new clubs and a golf bag.

His father Paul said: “This has helped him with his golf which he enjoys very much. Charles can become frustrated and upset at school and playing golf really helps. He knows that golf is a challenging game, but it’s also fun and in lovely surroundings, which is great for his mental health."

The women’s Stableford competition starts at club level with the women’s section of a golf club, making one of their Stableford competitions an England Golf Trust one - then entering the winners from two different handicap categories.

The top 30 pairs will then play in the final on Monday 19 August, 2024 at King’s Norton Golf Club, near Birmingham. Legendary golfer Bridget Jackson MBE will present the cup, which she donated to the England Golf Trust, along with a crystal bowl each. Winners take the bowls back to their home clubs to commemorate their win.

The entry fee is £5 per player (minimum entry per club £50). The closing date for entries is Wednesday 31 July 2024.

“Please get involved so that you can help more young golfers like Charles and Holly,” said Moira Page, Chair of England Golf Trust.
