In 1991 as the USSR collapsed and apartheid was being dismantled in South Africa, historic events were happening closer to home. That's right! Women & Golf magazine was launched.

It would be fair to say the women's game has come a long way since then, so to celebrate our anniversary and the evolution of the game over the last 25 years we're taking a look back throughout the year at how the game has changed, including unique editorial content in a special bumper July/August issue of Women & Golf magazine.

It's hard to argue that the game hasn't improved since our launch, in 1991 many of us were still playing with small persimmon headed drivers, carrying our clubs, and that’s before we even start on the fashion!!

Nowadays we're more likely to book our tee time on the internet, set the course location on our GPS watch and tee off with equipment which has been specifically designed for women. Equality means no more double gender standards at golf clubs (although you may disagree), the top women professionals are now competing for millions of dollars and golf is about to make its first appearance at the Olympic games.

Women’s golf may have come on leaps and bounds in the last 25 years but it still lags way behind the men’s game in terms of participation and coverage (to read more about women's participation from Naga Munchetty click here.) The last few years, however, have seen a major drive by a variety of golf organisations seeking to attract more females into the sport and we hope that the next 25 years will see many more women partake in the game we love.

Stay with us during our anniversary year as we relive the best (and worst) moments in women's golf and look forward to the next era of Women & Golf magazine.

If you were playing 25 years ago, or just want to give us your opinion on how the game has changed, we'd love to hear from you. Let us have your opinions and photos via facebook and twitter, or email [email protected].
