Swedish Rookie Gets Bitten By A Black Widow

In 2013 Swedish rookie Daniela Holmqvist thought struggling with her game during qualifying for the ISPS Handa Australian Open was the biggest of her problems. Then a sharp pain in her ankle forced the 24-year-old to reconsider. Doubled over in pain she quickly released she’d been bitten by the deadly black widow spider. Incredibly the hardy Holmqvist, whose leg was already swelling up, calmly reached into her pocket, pulled out a golf tee and used it to gash open her bite and squeeze the venom out. She would then go to complete her round.

Steve Lowry appeared to have played a solid shot onto the 17th green at Sawgrass during the 1998 Players Championship. Unfortunately this seagull was less impressed and proceeded to dump the ball into the water hazard. Under the rules, the ball was deemed to have been moved by an outside agency and so, luckily for Lowry, he was allowed to replace his ball.

Luke Donald got a fright at the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa last year when this baboon popped by to say hello. The incident didn't seem to affect the former world number one however who went on to shoot a nine-under 63.

Find yourself moaning about slow play. These bear cubs clearly don't seem to have the same qualms, after causing a hold up at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, Western Canada.

Pablo Larrazabel came under attack from a swarm of hornets during last year's Malaysian Open. The Spaniard was walking along the fifth fairway of the Kuala Lumpur Country Club when he flicked an insect off his nose; but in doing so he caused many more to swarm around him, stinging his face and head. In a bid to escape he dived into the nearest lake, but not without being stung at least 20 times in the process.

Whilst the sight of Larrazabel running across the fairway, tearing his clothes off is one of the European Tour's more humorous moments, Hornet bites can be deadly serious. Golfers have been killed by these mass insect attacks, with two men dying in China in 2013 in two seperate outbreaks.
