Speculation over whether Donald Trump will attend this week’s US Women’s Open is growing amid reports that flight restrictions have been put in place around Trump National, in Bedminster.

A Federal Aviation Administration alert warns pilots of ‘temporary restrictions’ during the championship, suggesting that the President may put in an appearance at the New Jersey venue.

This is the second major championship held at a Donald Trump owned course, after the Senior PGA Championship was staged at Trump National in Potomac Falls, this May. Although Trump did not attend that event, he did take a break from campaigning two years ago to attend the Ricoh British Women’s Open at Trump Turnberry.

The USGA has received substantial criticism for choosing to host their flagship female event at the Donald Trump course. Last October, a group of Democratic senators sent an open letter to the organisation asking them to reconsider their choice of venue, while women's rights group Ultraviolet have been staging protests at various LPGA events this year, and plan to hold further protests throughout the week.

Meanwhile Brittany Lincicome announced that she is taking a break from social media after she received online abuse following comments made last week that she hoped that the President would not attend so as to not distract from the golf.

The USGA have said that they no knowledge of the President’s schedule.
