Less than a week after a similar incident at the Ryder Cup, a spectator has been left with a head wound after being hit by defending Champion Tyrell Hatton at the Alfred Dunhill Links.
During yesterday's round, a spectator was seen bleeding from a head wound after being hit by Hatton's wayward tee shot at the 15th at Kingsbarns Golf Club.
The woman was treated on the course by paramedics before being taken by buggy to the medical centre on site.
The incident comes less than a week after a woman suffered a serious eye injury after being struck by another wayward shot on the opening day of the Ryder Cup. American Brooks Koepka mis-hit his tee shot into the crowd on the 6th hole at Le Golf National, leaving 49-year-old Corine Remande allegedly without sight in one eye.
The back-to-back incidents have caused quite a bit of discussion in the golfing world. In fact, Women & Golf editor, Alison Root, took to BBC Radio 2 today to comment: "Both are awful incidents but if you play golf or are a spectator, you know that golf balls are going to be flying around and there’s a chance that you might be hit. That’s the nature of the sport."
