Next time you find yourself listing all the reasons your golf game isn’t up to scratch, you may want to spare a thought for Gianna Rojas.

Rojas is better known as the ‘One Handed Lady Golfer’, and has not only proven that the sport is not out of bounds for women with disabilities, but has also played a hugely influential role in raising both funds and awareness for preventing and supporting people with birth defects.

Born with no fingers in her left hand, the American was initially introduced to the game by her husband Ray, but had no idea that she would get hooked on the sport. It took many years of trial and error before she found a swing that worked. Now a passionate golfer, Rojas now started a non-profit organisation called Adaptive Golfers to fill the void she felt while she was learning. Adaptive Golfers is a resource site for all people and resources in the adaptive golf world.

“It is a resource for people with all DIFFERENT ABILITIES. Be it Physical, Cognitive, Sensory, Health, or Age related, Adaptive Golfers will help challenged golfers match up with the resources needed to play to the best of their potential”, she said.

The organisation's mission is a daunting one as Gianna states. “First we have a need to get as many Golf teaching professionals as possible to teach students to play golf no matter what their challenges are. We need professionals that understand the differences in how to best unlock a person with challenges passion. Once they can teach adaptive golf then we can bring the golfers”.
