Naga’s Thoughts On Diversifying The Game Of Golf

Women & Golf columnist Naga Munchetty spoke recently about how she believes the industry can make more effort to diversify the game. Find out what happened…

As the next edition of Women & Golf hits the shelves on Friday 6th December, here’s a sneak preview of what you can expect from columnist Naga Munchetty this month.

Well it’s that time of year - wet underfoot, soggy and hard to walk through. I’m back to carrying my bag and that demands some getting used to. Gym work helps, recovering from a dislocated left knee (don’t ask) doesn’t. Still, I’m powering through and I think that I’m making progress.

I managed to get a few days of golf in the sunshine in Marrakesh a few weeks ago. I attended the International Golf Travel Market conference and I was invited to speak about how I think the golf industry can make more of an effort to diversify golf.

My comments were largely positively received, though I don’t think I suggested anything revolutionary. Think more about the image of the game, be more accommodating to women with children, who have perhaps been out of the game for a while but would love to participate again. Think about facilities and programmes which include younger, less affluent, less confident players and think about them as the future of the game. No rocket science, but maybe rather than giving lip-service to the ideas, put them into action.
