If you’ve been designated the difficult job of finding a guest speaker or some form of entertainment for your next golf club function, our correspondent has some ideas, although they might not suit everyone.
As the next edition of Women & Golf has hit the shelves, here’s a sneak preview of what you can expect from our correspondent Philippa Kennedy this month.
If you’re determined to have a ‘serious’ speaker you could try the golfing authorities, but in my experience, women don’t want to be lectured over lunch - they want a bloody good laugh with their Pinot Grigio.
It may sound a bit sneaky but many famous people can be contacted via their favourite charities. You could offer to make a collection at lunch, to be donated in exchange for a 20-minute talk.
If all else fails, try doing something entirely different. I once approached a local dress shop and asked them if they would provide clothes for a fashion show. Then I got some of the girls to act as models.
A pal of mine went to an hilarious ‘Only Fools and Horses’ golf club lunch recently where actors performed new sketches based on the popular show. The thought of Del Boy, Rodders and Trigger doing their thing at some of the posher clubs is irresistible.
Plonkers and moaners need not apply!
