The Golf Foundation is asking juniors to tell them how it feels to be back on the course and be in with a chance of winning a dozen Titleist golf balls.

Golf Sixes

Golf courses have reopened in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and from May 29 they will be welcoming people back in Scotland, too. So to celebrate the Golf Foundation is asking juniors to put that feeling of stepping up to the tee for the first time or striding down the fairway after weeks at home into a story, picture, video, poem or piece of writing.

Plus, as an extra incentive the best entry will win a dozen Titleist golf balls.

If you've exhausted all the games and activities you can think of, this could be a great way of keeping younger family members entertained over half term.

The organisation are asking juniors to answer any or all of the following questions:

1. What have you missed about playing golf? (e.g. your friends, exercise, or being outside in the fresh air.) And how does it feel to be back playing? (e.g. are you excited or happy?)

2. What did you most enjoy about your first round back?

3. Is there someone you would like to thank for introducing you to golf? (e.g. your family member, teacher or a PGA Coach)

If you/they are sharing a short video, please remember to introduce yourself with your first name and the golf club you usually like to play at (if applicable.)

The closing date for entries is Monday June 8, so you still have a week to come up with something creative.

Or, if you're looking for some inspiration, why not check out the below 'Ode to Golf' by Golf Foundation CEO Brendon Pyle which was inspired by how much he enjoyed his first round back.

Yesterday I played my first round of golf,
Since our world was bogied by the Covid wolf.
Late and stressed, and rushing to the tee,
I struck my first shot …and my soul soared free.

From the scent of the grass and the sound of the thwack,
To the scene of the green, it was a joy to be back.
I was greeted and treated by my welcoming Pro,
Smiling and happy with his all-weather glow.

I relished the time playing golf with my son,
Enjoying his learning and willing him on.
I saw family pairs smiling in that knowing way,
Walking and talking, and savouring their day.

And for a few precious hours our senses were calm,
Focusing our time on keeping ‘that ball’ from harm.
There were birdies and bogies, and splashes galore,
Laughter and giggles, and the odd shout of FORE.

So now I can’t wait for my next round of joy,
Swinging my sticks and ‘chilling’ with my boy.
Which got me to thinking, it’s not such a mystery…
Golf can help until the virus is history.
