Special Olympian Amy Bockerstette stole the hearts of golfers around the world when she joined Gary Woodland in a practice round at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Fresh off the back of the Special Olympics, Amy Bockerstette was invited to play the infamous 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale by defending champion Gary Woodland. Little did he know what an inspiration she'd be.
The collegiate golfer who has Down Syndrome showed no sign of nerves as she stood on the tee in front of hundreds of screaming fans. She teed it up alongside Gary Woodland and Matt Kuchar, and smashed her tee shot in to the bunker just short of the green.
"I got this," she said as she marched confidently into the bunker, "you can do this." And that's exactly what she did. A gentle flick through the sand and a firm putt in the back of the whole saw her walk off the green with a par - and the hearts of the golfing world.
"You're our hero Amy," beamed Woodland.
