Social media star Paige Spiranac may seem to have it all but the American spoke out ahead of this week's OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters about cyberbullying.
Few golfers divide opinion like Paige Spiranac.
Beautiful and charismatic, the American, with her huge social media following, offers the potential to draw new audiences to the game but with her results on the course yet to live up to those off them, the golfer has been on the receiving event of some pretty damning comments.
Talking to the press ahead of this week’s OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters, Spiranac spoke out about the abuse she received during her appearance at last year’s staging of the event, where she carded rounds of 77-79 to miss the cut, and her wish to inspire other girls to follow their dreams.
''If I can share my story, and I’m okay with being emotional about it and I’m okay with kind of expressing what happened to me," she said, "because people don’t realize how hard it was on me . . . people saying the world is better off without me," she said. “Cyberbullying is a huge problem and no one ever discusses it. It’s no longer funny. It’s not the cool thing to do to make fun of other people, and you need to be supportive and I think that’s really important.”
