LPGA star Morgan Pressel raised a remarkable million dollars at her Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament at St. Andrews Country Club on Monday.
When in 2007 Morgan Pressel claimed the Kraft Nabisco at the tender age of eighteen, with it becoming the youngest player at the time to have won a major championship, the glamorous American looked set to forge a remarkable career.
Ten years later, and despite remaining one of the leading lights on the LPGA, it looks as though it is in her fight against Breast Cancer where Pressel’s legacy will be created.
On Monday, the 10th annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament at St. Andrews Country Club, in Boca Raton, raised a remarkable $1,000,622 to help support the life-saving early detection work undertaken by her charity.
A significant amount of the money, which adds to the $5 million raised by Pressel throughout the course of her career, goes towards supporting the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan, a state of the art digital mammography mobile named after the LPGA star’s mum, who lost her fight to cancer when Morgan was just fifteen.
Among those who supported this year’s two-day pro-am and auction were World No. 1 Lydia Ko, two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer, as well as a host of other LPGA stars including Pressel’s close friend Paula Creamer.
''There aren’t enough words to describe what Morgan’s done,” Creamer told the Golf Channel. “She is one of my best friends, and this is what I’m most proud of her for.”
Money previously raised has also led to the creation of the Morgan Pressel Center for Cancer Genetics at the Lynn Cancer Institute’s Breast Cancer Center and Boca Raton Regional Hospital, in Florida.
