Cristie Kerr is one of the most accomplished players on the LPGA Tour, but her off-course interests have led to her becoming an ambassador for Loch Lomond Whiskies, so it’s drinks all round.

As the next edition of Women & Golf is ready to hit the shelves, here’s a sneak preview of what you can expect when our columnist Lewine Mair interviewed Cristie Kerr.
Cristie Kerr’s achievements are quite something - and they are not all to do with the two majors and an overall total of 20 LPGA events she has under her belt. The 41-year-old Kerr and her husband, Eric Stevens, are the parents of six-year-old Mason, and last month they welcomed a second son, Griffin, via a surrogate mother. They also work together in the running of Kerr Wineries, aburgeoning wine company which, in 2016, was picked out by the wine spectator as “The Winery To Watch.”
Cristie’s interest in wine dates back to an annual LPGA event played in the Napa Valley. Each time she went to that part of the world, she would visit the different wineries by way of an evening outing and, moving on from there, she started meeting winemakers, vintners and growers. “I was learning all the time and I soon realised that it was something in which I was seriously interested.”
Cristie is a golfer who never does anything by halves and, just as she has all those tournament wins to show what she can do in golf, she wanted to prove that she was not just a dabbler on the wine-making front. Typically, she sat - and passed - the first level of the Court of Master Sommeliers qualification in 2013.
“Quite a few players are teetotal, but quite a lot aren’t. I know that I like a glass of wine with my dinner.”
“It was hard work,” she remembers. “There was a lot of reading involved and I used to take my books with me to the tournaments. It was my ‘college’ if you like.” (Here, she went on to explain that she was one of the first players of her generation not to embark on four years at college by way of a stepping-stone to the LPGA tour.)
