They say that dogs are a man’s (or woman’s) best friend, but are pooches perfect golfing partners too? Here's everything you need to know about golfing with your dog.

Dogs on the golf course

They say that dogs are a man’s (or woman’s) best friend, but are our beloved pooches the perfect golfing partner too?

There’s no doubt that we’re a nation of dog lovers, but it seems that we’re becoming a nation of golfing dog lovers too. More and more, people are opting to take their dogs out on the golf course. Exercise for the dog and a playing partner for you who won’t spend a long time over their shot – are our four-legged friends the perfect golfing companions?

Where to play

It turns out that there are plenty of places where you can take your dog out on the course with you. Here are a few dog-friendly clubs that we found:

The etiquette

Playing golf with your four-legged friend might sound like a day in heaven for you, but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Here’s how to keep everyone happy…

1. Keep your dog under control at all times: If in doubt, keep them on the lead
2. Most golfers enjoy the peace and quiet of the course and would like to keep it that way: Don’t shout loudly after your dog
3. Think of your dog in the same way you would a trolley: Don’t let your dog on the green, in the bunker or in the water
4. Clean up after your dog: When your dog does its business, clean it up!

The dress code

Ok, we might be joking about the doggy dress code, but pooch-inspired golf accessories are genuinely a thing, and a cute one at that. Would you love a picture of your dog on your glove, their name embroidered on your towel or their fluffy face on your ball? Find it all at Zazzle.co.uk.
