Trauma, love, heartache and courage. Here are 18 reasons and counting why ‘MULLIGAN – tough love and second chances’ needs to be on your summer reading list.

‘MULLIGAN – tough love and second chances’ tells the remarkable story of 18 golfers and the highs and lows they experience in the face of disability, illness and love. It is touching, humbling and totally inspiring to hear of their hope and courage, and how golf has played such a pivotal role in it all. If ever you needed proof of the power of inclusiveness in golf, this is it. These young people from different walks of life have fought back from personal trauma and found, thanks to golf, that there is always a brighter day ahead.

The book features golfers from 14 different countries, each having experienced a different trauma or illness; leg amputation, single-arm players, wheelchair golfers, stroke survivors, PTSD sufferers and more, all golfers who refuse to be defined by disability. There is Aleš who started life in a hospital waste bin, Caroline who bravely told her surgeon, “when you take my leg, you are going to give me life,” and Shlomo who drags himself to the water's edge when he takes his girls to the beach. We also hear from Stewart who is battling after serving in Afghanistan, Lucas who was shot eight times in the back, and Monique, who is realising her ambition to win gold medals through talent and hard work.

Written by Tony Bennett, Ben Evans, and a team of volunteers from the EDGA, the book launched on 8 May at the British Masters. Much more than just producing a book though, the team of writers wanted to make a lasting difference, and so every purchase is issued with a “Give & Gift” option. For every donation of 25€ or more, the EDGA will donate a book to a hospital, organisation, rehabilitation or medical centre to ensure that anyone who needs a lift, is able to read the inspiring words of those who have found a way to move on with their life.

All of the money raised will be used to spread awareness of disability golf and support golfers with impairments. You can find out more or make a donation at www.edgagolf.com/book. Email [email protected] or call +44 (0) 800 8611675 for more information.
