W&G Evian Pairs Trophy

Congratulations to Marie Bayes (Abbotsley & John O’Gaunt) and Kim Brantigan (Abbotsley) on a great win at Evian - the new winners of the Women & Golf Pairs Trophy played at the home of the 5th women's major.

Twenty golfers took part in the 2015 Women & Golf Pairs Trophy played on the championship course that is home to the 5th major in womens’ golf. The event was hosted by Christine Langford a founder member of the LET and leading instructor, Chris was on hand to give expert advice and coaching on the magnificent Academy at the resort as well as playing alongside the players on the course.

Women & Golf Evian Pairs Trophy

The competition began with a Texas Scramble which was won in fine style by the team of Marie Bayes, Cheryl Ashlee (Woburn), Gina Gruchy (La Moye) and Chris Langford (Thorpeness), a flawless round of 8 birdies and 10 pars amounting to a winning score of 48 points.

Chris managed to bring her team back down to earth at breakfast the next morning by introducing them to Helen Alfredsson who has won the (other) Evian Championship three times and is the holder of the course record of 63, one shot better than their combined 64 the previous day – better luck next year!

Day two saw the payers come together to play in their pairs, a fourball better ball which was won by Marie and Kim with 42 points, three points clear of the Newmarket parings of Jude Andrews and Jess Murray and Lesley Ellis and Jane Monk.

Rosemary Skill and Alison Pitkethly (Beeston Fields) won the American Greensome event on day three defeating Marie and Kim on the back nine. The Abbotsley pair took a handsome lead in to the final round, an individual stableford with the aggregate score to count for the team.

The individual stableford was won by Gina Gruchy with 29 points scored on a difficult blustery day on the championship course. A combined stableford score of 55 points was enough to secure victory for Marie and Kim who won by 14 points from their nearest rivals, Jane Monk and Lesley Ellis.

The trophies were awarded to the winners by Cheryl Ashlee, defending champion, thanks go to our sponsors, A Golfing Experience, and Olverum Bath Oil.
