After 9 holes, mulled wine and a Christmas lunch, the ladies' committee at West Essex Golf Club had a real surprise in store for lady members, and much joy and laughter was had by all at the Yuletide day.
At West Essex Golf Club’s annual Yuletide celebration the ladies’ committee had a real surprise in store for its lady members.
Performing a take on Cinderella, a script based on the choosing of team colours for 2014 called Barbarella, in honour of Lady Captain Barbara Ingram, was marvellously written by Lynda Chard.
There was not a Stella McCartney outfit in sight! The cast that included characters like Alice in Wonderland, a fairy Godmother and Little Red Riding Hood, either borrowed clothes or wore homemade couture using crepe paper and staples! With faces beautifully made up, courtesy of a member’s wife, Lynda Chard and Linda Bearfield were the ugly sisters, who along with Barbara sang a Team Colours version of the Cyndi Lauper song, True Colours.
The club pro, Chris Baron, was also in on the act (literally), wearing a blonde boy-band wig, a silky blouse and a gold cape, as the second half of the play included a fancy dress ball that took the shape of Strictly come Dancing. There were, of course, lots of jokes about slow play – “he’s behind you” and ‘oh no he isn’t!”
The finale was an alternative version of “What a Wonderful World” and called “What a Wonderful Course”, obviously relating to the course at West Essex.
