We're delighted to announce that competitive women's golf will resume in the UK with the BrokenHurst Manor Open on June 18.
The one-day competition, created by Ladies European Tour (LET) player Liz Young and the club's head professional Jason MacNiven, will take place behind closed doors.
Stars already signed up include Meghan MacLaren, Annabel Dimmock, Amy Boulden, Gabriella Cowley and Major-winner Georgia Hall. Plus, as it is not an officially sanctioned LET event, any female pro in the UK is encouraged to take part, too.
Speaking to the Telegraph, organiser Liz Young referenced the contraversy surrounding the fact that the TaylorMade Driving Relief event only featured male players. She said:
“It is so important that women’s sport is visible. There was controversy a few weeks ago over the first golf in the US being men’s only. Because golf is a sport that can be played safely now it is key that the women get exposure, too."
She went on to state that the concept of the Hampshire event is simple:
“I wanted to find a way to put on a tournament for women’s professionals, so that we can be competitive again and have the chance to earn a little money in these uncertain times and to boost the profile of the women’s game.”

Fingers crossed we get to watch and we're also hopeful that, as one of the few sports where social distancing is easy to maintain, women's golf might be about to see a surge in popularity.
