The BBC’s exclusive live coverage of The Open begins Thursday 16 July – bringing live TV coverage on BBC One and BBCTwo and live radio coverage on BBC Radio 5 live.


 

Don’t miss a shot! The BBC’s exclusive live coverage of The Open in St Andrews begins from Thursday 16 July – bringing live TV coverage across BBC One and BBC Two and live radio coverage on BBC Radio 5 live.

BBC Sport’s digital platforms will provide a live video stream of all four days play with BBC Live text, score updates, interviews and analysis from BBC presenters and pundits. The ever-popular leader board returns to the BBC Red Button following every moment of the 2015 battle for the Claret Jug.

Hazel Irvine kicks off four days of competition coverage on TV from 9am on BBC Two (16 July) with all the driving range news and interviews being brought from new TV team member, Cara Robinson.
TV commentary comes from Peter Alliss, Ken Brown, Andrew Cotter, Mark James and Frank Nobilo.

On-course commentary comes from Maureen Madill and Philip Parkin with reporting team Rishi Persad and Dan Walker. Dan will also present his Radio 5 Live Afternoon Edition show from the iconic course before hosting the Open preview show live on 5 live on the evening of the 15 July in front of a 200 member live audience from the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews.

Also on the 15 July, Hazel Irvine presents the Champion Golfers’ Challenge on BBC Two which sees the likes of Tiger Woods, Sir Nick Faldo and Tom Watson compete over a 4-hole challenge. Starting at 4.00pm, the programme also features five times winner, Peter Thomson, taking part in what will be the 60th anniversary of his win at The Open in St Andrews in 1955.

Over on radio, John Inverdale tees off Radio 5 live’s Open coverage on 16 July with Des Smyth, Andrew Magee, and Carin Koch adding to an expert team of commentators and pundits headed up by the BBC’s golf correspondent Iain Carter. He is joined by an experienced commentary team which includes former Tour pros Jay Townsend and Andrew Murray as well as legendary coach David Leadbetter, alongside John Murray, Alistair Bruce-Ball, Conor McNamara, Vassos Alexander, Eilidh Barbour and Naga Munchetty.

Iain will also share his thoughts and insight on this year’s tournament in his online column exclusive to BBC Sport as part of the BBC’s raft of digital coverage. The BBC Sport website will also offer on-demand video clips of the best shot of the day and other memorable moments, all the latest news, expert analysis and features with all content available across PC, mobile, tablet and connected TV.

Spectators on the course will again benefit from free wi-fi, giving them the chance to follow events while on the move via the BBC Sport app. In addition to staying across the live coverage, fans both on and off the course will be able to join in the conversation on social media. BBC Sport’s Facebook, Google+, Instagram and Twitter accounts will also bring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, live Q&A sessions and live votes.

The popular leader board returns to BBC Red Button in 2015 along with uninterrupted coverage of all the action, allowing viewers to track every moment of play around the 18 holes.

As part of the build up to the event, Darren Clarke, Tom Watson, Gary Player, Gary Lineker, Chris Evans, Sir Bruce Forsyth and Sir Terry Wogan all feature in a special BBC Two documentary to celebrate the career golf of commentating legend, Peter Alliss. In what will be his 54th year with the BBC, the documentary, An Evening with Peter Alliss (15 July, 7pm) takes a look back on his remarkable life playing golf at the highest level before going on to have an illustrious career in broadcasting. Contributions from Peter’s family add a revealing insight to the man behind the microphone.
