Sweden’s Camilla Lennarth and Denmark’s Nicole Broch Larsen are tied for the lead at 10-under-par heading into the weekend at the 2016 RACV Ladies Masters.
Sweden’s Camilla Lennarth and Denmark’s Nicole Broch Larsen are tied for the lead at 10-under-par heading into the weekend at the 2016 RACV Ladies Masters at Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.
Lennarth shot a second consecutive round of five-under-par 68, while Broch Larsen finished in spectacular style with a chip in eagle at the 18th hole for a four-under-par 69 in the tougher afternoon conditions.
Lennarth, who claimed her sole LET win in the 2014 Allianz Ladies Slovak Open, produced a third place finish at RACV Royal Pines the same year and was sixth in 2015.
She added: “I’ve been finishing pretty well the previous three years that I’ve been here. I don’t know, I really like Broadbeach. We have a nice apartment, good roommates and I think maybe the setup of the course kind of suits me. Off the tee I feel pretty comfortable.
I play a little draw all the time and a few of the holes it’s good to play with a draw so maybe that’s why. I’m not really sure. It just seems to be going well and hope that it continues on the weekend.”
When asked about the changes to the course design, Lennarth said she was surprised that the scoring had been so low on day one. “When I played the back nine on Tuesday I didn’t really think that it was going to be this low on the leader board actually, but I think I’ve been pretty patient. I’ve been trying to play smart and I haven’t really attacked many pins especially not when I’ve had longer clubs. I’m trying to be smart and play to areas even on par fives. I haven’t really taken on the greens even. I’ve been playing maybe to the front or out to the right side and just trying to rely a little bit on the putt that’s been going well for these two days and even just the chipping has been good too. I’ve been relying on that too.”
Broch Larsen, 22, from Hillerød, is currently ranked 69th in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings, which makes her the third highest ranked player in the field this week behind Canadian Brooke Henderson (11), and former world number one Jiyai Shin (33) who are both lurking just two shots back at eight-under-par.
Lauren Taylor who was sitting a shot behind the lead on day one struggled to maintain that form in the second round after shooting a one-over-par 74. On a day of contrasting fortunes for English hopefuls Holly Clyburn moved her way into contention with a 69 to sit three shots behind the leaders.
