Here's a round-up of this year's Rose Ladies Series, with five events across two weeks in April & May

Back for its sixth year, the Rose Ladies Series was set to get underway, like it did last year, in North West England.

The 2025 series was hosted by three English courses in the North West and two courses in the South East.

West Lancashire Golf Club

West Lancs Golf Club

As in 2024, West Lancashire Golf Club hosted the opening event on Monday April 28. There were 39 players in the field, including a number of past event winners, LET players and three amateurs.

Unlike last year's event, the golfing gods were kind and the event was play in brilliant sunshine and clam conditions. Nevertheless, scoring was not easy and the back nine proved difficult.

Rose Ladies Series Fourball Competition Winners #1

A special thanks must go to the Rose Ladies Series organisers who put together a fantastic competition package for our Women & Golf readers. As well as enjoying the golf, we were treated to a delicious lunch and a Q&A with LET star Lily-May Humphries.

We were delighted to be joined by the ladies of Queensbury Golf Club in Bradford. Helen Rhodes was the winner of our competition but unfortunately had to withdraw because of illness. Nevertheless, a replacement was found and Gill, Edith, Anne & Jill had a wonderful time. {Sorry Helen!)

The group managed to have a one-to-one with Lily-May Humphries following her round. After an outstanding amateur career, Lily joined the LET in 2022. She had played at Augusta TWICE as an amateur and thought it was amazing (Highlights were BBQ pulled pork and peach ice cream sandwich). She has had one success on Tour to date - winner of Joburg Ladies Open on 2023 but is hoping for more success this year. There's a lot of travelling on tour and she has decided to concentrate on Rose Ladies Series instead of flying out to Korea for the Aramco Team Series. Her goal for 2025 is to win a tournament. The 2023 win gave her a 2-year exemption but she still has to qualify for 2025 AIG Women's Open.

Good luck Lily!

Gill, Helen's sister said: "We had a fantastic day, thank you so much. It was inspiring to see the young women playing so well and it was an opportunity to walk around the course which is very different to ours. Personally, I was surprised how little the female pros are supported. Lily was quite candid about the financial difficulties, lack of sponsiorship for women (except the very top few). I was struck by how little the Rose Ladies Series has been promoted, amazed that there were so few spectators there. On the other hand, everyone was so welcoming - the Rose Ladies Series team and the people at the golf club. it was great to meet you (Jane) and you really spoiled us with lunch, the goody bag, etc. we will put the photos up in our locker room and have already shared them. We will try to attend again next year, if it's on."

A stunning round of 4 under par (68) saw her pip Sarah Gee of Cumberwell Park at the post. A tough course with some deep rough ensured those who kept on the fairway faired best. Only five players under par on the day (out of a field of 39).

And finally a few words from the Lady Captain of West Lancashire, Toni Keane

From first swing to Lady Captain - my journey into golf.

As a young woman, I never had the opportunity to play golf. At my workplace, there was a men’s golf section, but no equivalent offering for ladies. Golf always seemed just out of reach—something reserved for others. That changed in 2016 when I spotted an advertisement in the local newspaper for the Get into Golf initiative. It was the moment that opened the door to a whole new chapter of my life.

Shortly afterward, I joined the West Lancashire Golf Club’s “125 School,” a brilliant introduction to the sport and to the club community. The experience was so welcoming and rewarding that I soon became a full member. Since then, golf has become a passion and an integral part of my life.

This year, I’ve had the immense honour of serving as Lady Captain of West Lancashire Golf Club—one of the most prestigious and historic clubs in the region. It’s been a privilege to represent the club and contribute to its ongoing legacy.

One of the true highlights of my captaincy was hosting the Rose Ladies Series. This inspiring event gives young women a much-needed platform to showcase their talent and passion for the game. Watching these exceptional athletes compete on our course was both thrilling and humbling. I was especially honoured to present the trophy to the very deserving winner, Chloe Williams.

Meeting the players and seeing their dedication firsthand reminded me of how far the women’s game has come—and how important it is to continue creating opportunities for women in golf. I wish all the participants a successful year ahead, filled with growth, joy, and many more moments to shine.

Golf has enriched my life in ways I could never have imagined, and I hope my journey inspires others to take that first swing—no matter when or how they start.

Best wishes, Toni Keane

Renowned for its challenging terrain, the course features natural sand dunes, heathland elements, and distinctive holes such as the par-3 8th and the formidable 16th, known as "Gumbleys," a deep sleepered bunker reminiscent of Prestwick's infamous hazards.

Only eight players out of a field of 54 were under par.

Lydia made it back to back Welsh winners for first two events. A stunning round of 6 under par (66) saw her romp to victory. Her nearest challenger was Lily-May Humphries with a great round of 3 under.

The Buckinghamshire

The Buckinghamshire Golf Club

The final venue of the series was The Buckinghamshire Golf Club. A prestigious golf venue located in Denham, Buckinghamshire.

Set within a 226-acre parkland estate, the club is known for its scenic beauty, mature trees, and the River Misbourne running through it. Its also the headquarters for the Ladies European Tour.

The clubhouse, a Grade II listed manor house dating back to the 17th century, has recently undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment and the facilities are exquisite.

The course was in outstanding condition and with some tough pin positions proved a real test for everyone as no player broke par.

Rose Ladies Series Fourball Competition Winners #2

Winner Hannah Screen, Jane from Women & Golf and CAmbridge Country Club ladies

An extra special thanks must go to the Rose Ladies Series organisers who put together a second fantastic competition package for our Women & Golf readers. As well as enjoying the golf, we were treated to a delicious lunch, goody bag and a Q&A with LET star (and eventual winner) Hannah Screen.

We were delighted to be joined by the ladies of Cambridge Country Club in Bourn near Cambridge. Kim Morley was the winner of our second competition and brought her CCC playing pals Diane, Paula & Tamayo.

Kim said: "We had a fantastic day, thank you so much. It was a real treat to meet Hannah and then to see her win overall was very special. The facilities and hospitality at The Buckinghamshire was amazing. And the golf course in fabulous condition. Honoured to see Dame Laura still teeing up and giving a masterclass for us older golfers."

The group also managed to have a one-to-one with Hannah Screen after her round. She had the pleasure of playing wth Dame Laura Davies and said it was a pinch me moment when she saw the draw. It was one of the quickest rounds she's played too. Having only acquired her LET card in early 2024, she has visited many countries and particularly enjoyed playing in Australia earlier this year. She treats golf as her job and does all her own scheduling including booking flights and accommodation. She is aiming for Top 70 this year to retain her card and will hopefully get to play in the AIGWO in Royal Porthcawl as she has never played there. When asked if she prefers links or parkland, parkland won. Although her favourite course in the UK is North Berwick.

Good luck for the 2025 season Hannah!

Final thoughts

Inspired by Liz Young’s idea of a roll up at Brokenhurst Manor during lockdown, this event series has well and truly established itself on the women's pro tour schedule. Nearly 40 events have taken place since 2020. With players visiting fantastic courses such as Wentworth, The Berkshire, West Lancs, Bearwood Lakes, Southport & Ainsdale, Sunningdale, Royal St George’s, Royal Birkdale, Walton Heath and Hillside.

Since 2022 with the LET & LETAS schedules being so strong, the Rose Ladies Series is now a condensed series of 5 events in April/early May. These act as a great warm-up opportunity for the UK-based professionals.

This series has been another extremely well organised and enjoyable event with the continued support of Kate and Justin Rose. We know the players really appreciate the effort they put in to make this an extremely professional tournament. It has been a joy to watch the latest generation of female pros take to the fairways and allowed budding amateurs to join in.

We look forward to the Rose Ladies Open later this year and next season's series. Hopefully we'll encourage a few more spectators in the future.
