Reed Claims His First Ever Green Jacket at 2018 Masters Championship

Putting together one of the most impressive performances in Augusta history, Patrick Reed maintained momentum in the final round of the Masters on Sunday to claim his first-ever green jacket.

McIlroy started his final round laying the pressure on Reed, but after missing a concession of putts found himself out of contention quite early on. But eventhough we were expecting a fiery re-match of the 2016 Ryder Cup duel between Reed and McIlroy, it was actually Jordan Spieth who became Reed’s biggest challenger. Despite an errant tee shot into the trees on 18 costing him a bogey, Spieth posted a final-round score of 64, tying for the best Sunday round in the history of the Masters and finishing 13-under for the tournament.

Rickie Fowler went on a late birdie surge on the back nine to finish in second place at 14-under, holing his birdie putt on 18 and forcing Reed to make par or better on the final hole to secure victory.

Prior to a bogey at 15, Jon Rahm, had his own brief push into contention, and with Dustin Johnson in the mix as well, it seemed as though the coveted green jacket could have been anyone’s. With the best golfers in the world chasing him for the lead, Reed stayed solid, following up with a birdie shortly after each bogey, and holing pivotal birdie putts on the par-3 12th and par-4 14th.

Fowler finished the tournament in second place at 14-under, with Spieth close behind in third at 13-under. Behind them, John Rahm, 11-under, was fourth whilst Rory McIlroy, Cameron Smith, Henrik Stenson, and Bubba Watson all tied for fifth at 9-under.
