Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum leads the second round of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at 10-under par, with English star Georgia Hall hot on her heels at 9-under.

Pornanong Phatlum carded another bogey-free and bunker-free round today to take the lead going into the weekend. Today’s score of 5-under par sees her with a one-shot lead ahead of England’s Georgia Hall, yesterday’s leader Minjee Lee, and Mamiko Higa from Japan, who are all tied for second at 9-under par.
Yesterday’s leader Minjee Lee dropped three shots in the last three holes with a double bogey at the 16th and a bogey at the 17th.
Following on from an impressively steady round of 67 yesterday, Georgia Hall’s form continued today with a second-round score of 4-under par. With her Dad still on the bag, Hall’s strategy this week has been to stay out of the bunkers and it’s working, with not a single bogey on the card in the opening two rounds at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
There was another hole-in-one at the 9th today, this time from Brooke Henderson who shot 2-under par to finish at 5-under and in the top 10 heading into the weekend.
ANA Inspiration winner, Pernilla Lindberg made a move up the leaderboard with a second-round score of 68 after opening with a birdie two at the first.
World number one Ariya Jutanugarn joins last year’s winner In-kyung Kim at 3-under par and tied 15th. Celine Herbine also joins the pack of players tied at 3-under. Herbine is coached by Seve Ballesteros’ brother, leaving us wondering if Seve’s two previous wins at Royal Lytham & St Annes will be a good omen for the French player.
After a day of two halves yesterday, Charley Hull’s hope of a major disappeared after a string of bogies today saw her shoot 6-over par, 78, and miss the cut. It was a similar story for England’s Mel Reid, Jodi Ewart Shadoff, and Holly Clyburn who all missed the cut with over-par rounds today.
2015 winner, Inbee Park has also missed the cut after opening rounds of 4-over and 2-over consecutively.
With no more rain forecast for the weekend, let’s see what moving day has in store at Royal Lytham & St Annes…
