Sung Hyun Park Wins Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic

Sung Hyun Park showed off a dazzling exhibition of golf on Sunday at the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic, chipping in at the last to claim her third LPGA victory.

The Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic may have been shortened to 36 holes thanks to less than favourable weather conditions on Thursday and Friday, but that certainly didn’t mean that the golf was any less impressive.

Teeing off two hours later than Saturdays leader, Aditi Ashok, Sung Hyun Park knew exactly what she needed to do to secure her win- and without a doubt did she deliver. Chipping in for eagle at the fourth, and again for birdie on the last, Park’s dazzling exhibition of golf wowed fans and saw her finish 11-under par to claim her third LPGA victory.

Park’s short game over the 36-hole tournament was nothing less than magnificent, with just 24 putts in the first round and 28 in the second, as well of course as a number of chip-ins along the way. In her second year on tour, Park carded an eagle and five birdies on Sunday, including three birdies in a four hole stretch on the front nine to zoom into the lead.

After two wins in her rookie year in 2017, this performance was particularly significant for Park who hasn’t quite started the season as she would have hoped, having had only one top ten finish in eight starts this year.

Finishing just behind Park at 10-under par, Lindy Duncan posted her career best on Sundays round, canning birdies on holes 16, 17, and 18 to finish in spectacular fashion.
