Teeing off in the first group of the day, the Spaniard carded six birdies in a blemish free round to shoot up the leaderboard at the inaugural event in Sitges, near Barcelona. The 21-year-old, who won the Lalla Meryem Cup in only her second start on tour last year, sits a stroke ahead of Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell and French Solheim Cup contender Karine Icher.
World No. 10 Anna Nordqvist failed to recreate the magic that put her top of the leaderboard after day one, but is still very much in the mix after a second round one-under-par. The Swede looked on course for another low round but made double on her eighth hole to drop out of the lead and despite three back nine birdies lies two behind the Spanish youngster.
‘’I played well, apart from the stretch in the middle of the course. I hit into a bush over the back on 8 and then played a poor hole on 9.’’ Nordqvist commented.
Pretswell had a sparkling four-under-par 67 on day two, despite suffering with a cold, to put herself in contention for the weekend. ‘I played really solid today. A few missed putts but excited going into the weekend.’

It was a good day for the Scots with Kylie Henry shooting a seven-under-par second round, which included seven birdies and an eagle. The Scot failed to break par on day one after struggling with illness but bounced straight back on Friday to put herself in T14 after day two.
The heat was ramped up this week with Solheim Cup captain Annika Sorenstam making an appearance. Englishwomen Georgia Hall, Florentyna Parker and Melissa Reid were among the players selected to attend a special dinner for potential players yesterday evening, and all three will be hoping to make an impression over the weekend.
Sweden’s Emma Nilson improved upon her first round by an incredible 17 shots, with a course record equalling eight-under-par 63.
