Liz Young wins Rose Series scholarship

We’re still absorbing the success of the AIG Women’s Open, but already we have more good news for women’s golf.

Research company Sports Marketing Surveys has just announced that it will be awarding it’s Rose Ladies Series scholarship to Liz Young, the player who initially came up with the idea of hosting the first event on the British tour at Brokenhurst Manor.

The £7,500 prize is designed to support a Ladies European Tour player striving to get on to the LPGA Tour, and it was provided by Stephen Proctor, Chairman of Sports Marketing Surveys.

The award panel was made up of Ken Schofield, former CEO of the European Tour, Journalist and W&G contributor Lewine Mair, and Stephen himself.

Liz was considered to be the best non-LPGA performer across the series, and without her original concept that sparked the interest of Justin and Kate Rose, none of the Series would have happened.

While she didn't win any of the events, she was always high up on the leaderboard and in the rankings for the American Golf Order of Merit.

Announcing the award Stephen said:

“We are delighted that Liz has accepted our offer of support. It is thoroughly deserved on the basis of her play, and happily also acknowledges her initiative without which so many aspiring players would have had no competitive play.

"Liz will be a great ambassador for the game, and Sports Marketing Surveys are proud to support her.”

When informed of the selection, Kate Rose said: “Liz is a fantastic choice. I am so thrilled for her, and fully supportive.”

Meanwhile, when accepting the award, Liz said:

"When Stephen offered me the award, I felt extremely honoured that the award panel had chosen me. The Rose Ladies Series has been an amazing journey and I am so grateful for the support from Stephen and Sports Marketing Surveys, which will help me reach my full potential."

Well done Liz, we can’t think of a more deserving winner.
