About The European Golf Team Championships
The European Golf Team Championships take place at Gleneagles from 8-12 August and will see some of the biggest names in professional golf -both men and women- compete head to head as part of the innovative multi-sport Glasgow 2018 European Championships.
The new format will feature a 50/50 gender split in the field with male and female professionals competing for equal prize money in both a Men’s and Women’s Team match-play Championship, as well as an 18-hole foursomes stroke-play Mixed Team Championship.
15 nations are set to compete for medals across the five days of competition, with Great Britain leading the way with a maximum representation of six teams – three each in both the men’s and women’s event.
Four-time Major winner Dame Laura Davies headlines the women’s draw, playing with Solheim Cup star Georgia Hall, and the pair have already fended off team Spain in a 5&4 defeat.
Fresh off the back of her seriously impressive major win at Royal Lytham & St Annes last weekend, Hall will certainly be a force to be reckoned with this week, admitting that she’ll find even more reassurance playing alongside her golfing idol. "When I heard I was to partner Laura I knew straight away we would be a good team," she said. "With Laura's help, I know I will feel more calm and relaxed."
But there’s a mutual admiration between the duo as Davies commented, "I was doing TV commentary at the Solheim Cup last year and was very impressed with Georgia’s performance," DAVIES said. "She is an excellent match play golfer and that will stand us in good stead in these European championships."
2019 Solheim Cup European Team Captain, Catriona Matthew will get the chance to see the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles in competitive action when she lines up alongside England’s Holly Clyburn for the second GB team.
